Cellular Floral Mandalas
The word mandala simply means “circle” in Sanskrit. Obviously the mandalas that I draw are not perfect circles. They are bumpy and wavy and sometimes lopsided. But, generally, they are roundish. Perhaps this is an intuitive metaphor for the imperfections of life.
A traditional mandala presents a series of symbols, arranged with symmetry and balance, within a circle which is within a square. Many cultures use them as a meditative tool.
My dad always used to say that wherever you went, wherever you lived, you must plant a few flowers. Why? —- he said this because flowers bring joy and positive uplift and because their colors and shapes initiate so many inspiring emotions, thoughts, and dispositions inside us.
I call these pieces of art “cellular floral mandalas” because I have had so many people tell me that they look like both — a flower and a mandala — so I decided to combine the two ideas. My hope is that the combination of a flower and a mandala will bring joy, happiness, elevation, calm, and a meditative opportunity.
I will be launching this new series soon. Here is one that is completed and that I hope brings joy and uplift to you.
